Such a historic moment of discomfort, distress and discombobulation in comedy is precisely what longtime performer Colin Quinn captures in his directorial debut, an HBO Max original film released last week, Colin Quinn & Friends: A Parking Lot Comedy Show.
Among the ruling body… was executive producer Blair Breard, who’s helmed several notable comedy TV shows, including Baskets and Better Things, as well as stand-up specials like Louis C.K.: Live at the Comedy Store.
Ally Engelberg, director of development and production at Above Average, the production services company that partnered with Breard to generate the Quinn special, says the piece is nothing less than “a historical document” about comedy and film production in the age of COVID-19.
As more than an artform, and perhaps a public service, Quinn says, “I feel like comedy has proven itself now.”
